I have been using Vonage for a few years and must say I really like it. It is alot cheaper than having a traditional home phone. The Broadband phone serviecs also provide a number of features that are not provided by traditional service providers.
Some of these include:
- Web access to voicemail
- Email notification of voicemail (w/ or w/out attachment of message)
- Detailed usage data (similar to that of a cell phone bill)
- Those detailed stats are available online immediately after a call is placed or received
- Dynamic controls of features, enable and disable them on the fly
One thing to be aware of is the rules, restrictions, limitations and policies for 911 dialing. The FCC is formalizing 911 service for VoIP; however, currently there are some limitations. Check into that with your provider. If you already have service, check into it soon. The FCC has made a couple mandates that take effect Sept. 28, 2005. Check into your 911 dialing service before that date. You may need to acknowledge a policy to maintain your service.
