What is a podcast?
A podcast is a audio show. Think of talk radio, it is just like that; however, distribution is online as a compressed (or sometimes uncompressed) file usually an MP3. The MP3 can be downloaded a variety of ways and listened for listening on a computer or any other MP3 compatible playing device.

The benefit of a podcast, unlike a radio show is that anyone can produce and distribute content. You do not need to record in a formal studio, you do not need to get a radio station to air your show, etc. You can produce a very low budget podcast designed for a very small, niche market. That market could be friends, family, group, organization or a general podcast with a global audience.

Why would I want to listen to a podcast?
It is possible to find a podcast about numerous topics! You can find a podcast to interest anyone. It is free and portable. It is not usually tied to big business. They usually focus on the opinions of industry experts, hobbiests, etc.

Unlike radio or tv the content is usually more raw. Not as politically correct. Hear un-canned, un-influenced opinions about what you are listening. Podcasts like This Week in Tech gives a perspective about tech news by some industry professionals not influenced by advertisers and corporate relationships. Money Well Spent is a debate about how to spend money, usually focusing on gadgets and technologies (however, not exclusively). Here product reviews or purchase recommendations from people buying or using these products who are not being payed or influenced to give favorable information about products.
