BugTracker.NET Installation

I just completed the setup of BugTracker.NET at The BureauPatrick had found it and though it lacks UI candy, it looked like a very good tool / resource.  It is a web based bug tracking tool for software development teams.  It is free and simple to use.  At first glance, it looks a bit ugly, there is definately room for a lot of enhancement to the user interface.  That being said it very elagantly accomplishes what is necessary to track bugs, issues, feature opportunities, etc. within the application development process.

BugTraker is a web based application.  It installs on an IIS server with either MS SQL or SQL Express (possibly others, but I have not checked).  Our installation was on to a Windows 2008 Server running IIS 7.  The backend is running on one of our MS SQL 2005 servers.  The setup process was very easy.  Run a couple database scripts, add a database user and modify the connection string within the webconfig.

The best feature of BugTracker is the screen capture tool.  It is a simple, light weight executable which is accompanied by a registry key that needs to be merged into the system you are using.  Below you will find a screen shot.  Once installed, to use the capture utility, first configure the utility with your username and password for your bugtracker site.  After that, capture either the foreground or entire screen.  Add marks to the screen capture if necessary then send to BugTracker.  When sending you are provided the opportunity to log a new bug or add the capture to an existing bug.

I would like to see some additional functionality added to the drawing capabilities, for example a text tool, a shape tool (square, circle), but in the end it is simple and works.  All for free.  The web application itself has some powerful tools.  It allows users to write and store custom sql queries into the system.  It also provides some basic reporting / charting.  The bug list can be printed or exported to excel.

It looks as though this will be a great tool.
